Baseball Defensive Plays: Outfield Fly to Center with Runner on First

In baseball and softball, all nine fielders have defined responsibilities and need to move on every play.

Outfield fly to center with runner on first, the play is to make the catch and throw to second.  

Outfield Fly to Center with Runner on First

Play:

Situation: Runner on first with less than two outs
Offense: Outfield fly to center field
Defense: Play is to make the catch or field the ball and throw to second

Player Responsibilities:

Pitcher: Back up the throw to second base
Catcher: Cover home
1st base: Cover first base
2nd base: Cover second base
3rd base: Move into the infield to back up throw to second base
Shortstop: Moves into outfield to cutoff throw to second base
Left: Back up left field
Center: Go hard to the ball to make the catch and throw to second
Right: Back up left field
Note: The throw to the cutoff man only if necessary, otherwise throw directly to second.
